'MANHATTAN S' floor light

Following the introduction of halogen lamps in the 1970s, the lamp industry developed flicker-free fluorescent lamps with better light colours in the 1980s. As the efficiency of fluorescent lamps is many times higher than that of incandescent and halogen lamps, Rosmarie and Rico decide to experiment with these light sources. The impact of the "Club of Rome" report and the debate about nuclear power contribute to this decision.
The particular challenge is to make the unpopular "tube light" "acceptable" for the living room. The answer is a vertical column with brilliant points of light. The design language and processing techniques change with the new light source, and it takes a correspondingly long time for the luminaire to go into production.

Perforated sheet metal becomes the new material in the luminaire manufactory. Against all expectations, MANHATTAN becomes the pioneer of new, successful luminaire models that soon address a new market segment, the office sector.
Shortly after the unexpected death of Rico Baltensweiler, the floor lamp is ready for sale. The new team of Rosmarie, Gabriel and Karin develop further types of luminaires. They complement the MANHATTAN luminaire family as swivelling ceiling lights and wall lights in various lengths.
