The 001 Stool is essential, immediate, resilient. Like the Dining Tables and Chairs before it, Fredrik Paulsen has created a pleasingly archetypal design. Although Stool is the smallest object in the 001 family, this small seat loses none of the bulk that characterises its siblings. Generous dimensions of timber are used to full effect, making a reliably sturdy object. Yet 001 Stool is light enough to be moved around easily because Paulsen wanted to be clear about designing practical everyday seating.

The 001 Stool in Black features a deep black stain, unique to Vaarnii, through which pine's distinctive grain remains pleasingly visible.

All our pine timber is harvested from sustainably managed Finnish forests, is PEFC certified and slow grown.

Vaarnii’s Black furniture is made from the same materials as our natural finish objects. A deep black stain, created in-house, is added as a final stage of the production process. The stain is long-lasting and hard-wearing and has been developed to reveal the decorative wood grain beneath. As the pine wood's natural hue deepens with age, the black stain finish will also gain richness.

Although our pine timber is the hardest soft timber you can find, it will dent and scratch over time. We ask you to embrace these characterful signs of aging.

Our raw material is hand selected for maximum quality. Because of the nature of wood, each product has a unique grain, colour, and pattern.

Naturally occurring fractures in the wood grain are filled with a natural resin. Keeping these imperfections visible is true to Vaarnii’s values of honest and unconventional furniture making.

Vaarnii’s pine products are finished with stain-resistant, water-repellent hard wax oil.
