Catalog essay

Hartmut Lohmeyer, unlike traditional chair makers, didn’t base his furniture designs on freely formulated product shapes. Instead, he focused on the constructive possibilities of the material, allowing the form to naturally emerge from those possibilities. His design philosophy of avoiding opulence and embellishments resulted in chairs that were minimalist and disciplined, yet still possessed a consciously sensual appeal. Alongside his distinctive design language, his craftsmanship background set strict standards for detailed construction and technical finesse.
