Catalog essay

Unlike traditional chair makers, the architect Hartmut Lohmeyer didn’t base his furniture designs on freely formulated product shapes. Instead, he focused on the constructive possibilities of the material, from which the form naturally emerged. His decision to forgo opulence and embellishments made his chairs spare and disciplined, yet they still exuded a consciously sensual appeal. Along with his distinct design language, the craftsmanship background set high standards for detailed construction and technical finesse.
