Chair, mod. 411

The upholstered, organically shaped seat platform is mounted onto the cross brace of the beechwood frame. The bow-shaped backrest and the outward curvature of the armrests are intelligently engineered out of one piece of wood.

Catalog essay

Unlike most chair designers, architect Hartmut Lohmeyer did not start his furniture designs with a freely formulated product shape, but instead with the constructive possibilities of the material, from which the form ultimately emerged. His avoidance of opulence and embellishments made his chairs minimalist and disciplined, yet they still had a consciously sensual appeal. Along with their distinctive design language, the craftsmanship origin set strict standards for carefully worked-out construction details and technical refinements.
