The 612 chair was designed in 1946/1947 by Finnish architect, urban planner and designer Alvar Aalto. Together with his wife Aino, the art patron Maire Gullichsen and the art historian Nils-Gustav Hahl, Aalto founded the company Artek in 1935, under which the chairs were produced. His designs were quickly well received - because unlike other designers of his time, Aalto did not use metal and instead used birch wood, which was widely available in Finland and could also be afforded by lower-income families. This model is no longer produced today. The chair was originally sold by the Wohnbedarf company (parts of the stamp are still recognizable). The chair with a backrest made of woven textile strips and a seat made of dark fabric is in good condition with slight signs of wear.
