Catalog essay

Prof. Dr. Georg Leowald, a professor at the Ulm University of Design (HfG), joined Wilkhahn at the end of the 1950s. He went on to create numerous successful designs. These designs were characterized by clear lines and refined details in both traditional wood craftsmanship and innovative plastic technology, embodying the typical "architect chairs" of Wilkhahn. The armchair 440B was made from elegant cherry wood or the then-popular teak. With its simple, classic upholstery on the seat and back, both with and without armrests, it quickly found discerning owners.
