Chair with armrests, mod. 703/0 'Flexer'

Leowald’s patented principle of a seat platform that adapted automatically to the user’s posture, marked the beginning of “healthy sitting”. The upholstered seat is attached to a skid base in nickel-plated steel that supports changes in posture and movement by means of its resilient performance in combination with a flexible seat platform. Further models were added to this concept to form a complete range for “dynamic sitting”.

Catalog essay

Prof. Dr. Georg Leowald, a professor at the Ulm University of Design (HfG), joined Wilkhahn at the end of the 1950s. He went on to create numerous successful designs. These designs were characterized by clear lines and refined details in both traditional wood craftsmanship and innovative plastic technology, embodying the typical "architect chairs" of Wilkhahn. Leowald's patented principle of automatically adapting the seat surface to the body's position marked the beginning of "active, healthy sitting." The upholstered body is connected to a nickel-plated steel frame, which supports the elastic seat surface through runners.
