Unlike most chair makers, the architect Hartmut Lohmeyer didn’t start his furniture designs from a freely formulated product shape. Instead, he focused on the constructive possibilities of the material, from which the form naturally evolved. His chairs and tables, characterized by a lack of opulence and decoration, were minimalist and disciplined yet still had a consciously sensual appeal. Along with his distinctive design language, the craftsmanship background set strict standards for elaborated construction details and technical finesse.
