Embru is a renowned Swiss furniture manufacturer with a long tradition. The origins of the company date back to 1873, when Rudolf Hess-Vontobel acquired the Pilgersteg, a workshop for the manufacture of ironware powered by water. In 1895, his son Hermann began producing steel wire mattresses and iron beds, thus entering an untapped field in Switzerland. Since then, Embru has established itself as a respected manufacturer of furniture. In the 1930s, Embru worked closely with architects of the “Neues Bauen” movement and thus contributed to Swiss design history. Well-known Swiss design icons such as the Landibank by Alfred Altherr and the armchair by Werner Max Moser were created. In addition to these well-known designs, Embru also produced numerous factory designs. This armchair is a factory design from 1936 and was originally used as a hospital armchair. The ottoman is a work after Breuer and is perfect as an allonge to the armchair.
