After completing an apprenticeship as a carpenter, a traineeship as a draughtsman and an internship in Paris, Hans Eichenberger opened his own studio for interior architecture and design in Bern. This was followed by various furnishing commissions and joint projects in Switzerland and abroad with the architecture group Atelier 5. Along the way, the Bernese designer created furniture for various Swiss manufacturers such as Dietiker, de Sede and WOGG. His work, which includes more than 35 chairs and armchairs, has won numerous awards at home and abroad - some of his furniture can also be found in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The HE-113 armchair, designed in 1956, can also be described as a homage to Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer. As part of the Swiss Design collection, the armchair soon became a classic and was also internationally renowned; the American furniture importer Charles Stendig had the model in its range under the name “New Bauhaus”.
