Catalog essay

Born in 1950, Ouko Järvisalo graduated from the prestigious University of Art and Design Helsinki in 1977, quickly establishing himself as a force in Finnish furniture design. Since 1979, he has collaborated with esteemed Finnish manufacturers, founding his own design studio in 1986. His talent extends to academia as a professor of furniture design at Aalto University, and he currently serves as chief designer and art director at Mobel.

Järvisalo's work has garnered international recognition and numerous awards, with pieces exhibited in renowned museums like the Designmuseo in Helsinki, the Athenaeum in Chicago, and the Stedelijk in Amsterdam.

One of his career standouts is the postmodern "Mondi" chair, designed in the 1980s in partnership with Inno Oy, a Finnish company founded by Harri Korhonen in 1975. Inno Oy, now family-run by Harri's son Niklas, champions innovative, functional design. This collaboration resulted in the iconic Mondi chair, a testament to Järvisalo's mastery of form and functionality. This set of two Mondi chairs exemplifies his exceptional design skills from every angle.
