'Ravioli' easy chair and ottoman

Greg Lynn, US architect, professor and designer, designed the Ravioli armchair for Vitra in 2005. He is considered one of the pioneers of parametric design, i.e. he designs buildings and objects with the help of digital, algorithmic design tools. For his goal of creating a lounge chair with as few elements as possible, he used a rigid base shell made of glass fiber-reinforced polyester and a soft seat made of polyurethane foam. For the two-tone knitted cover, he used a technique that would be used years later in the manufacture of sports shoes. Two different colored threads were interwoven with a third thread of thermosetting adhesive so that the cover could take the shape of the upholstery foam and be bonded to it at the same time.
