What is your inspiration for Speculo?

In a constant condition of relating to time in a stressed world, this clock aims to let us think and rethink while mirroring ourselves in it. A wall clock is in some ways an old fashion interior object. But what I find intriguing is to make the viewer free of phones or other devices while still being able to have a sense of time.


Tell us how you make Speculo.

Speculo Wall Clock is a mouth blown glass piece. The process starts in the hot-shop where I blow the dial in a tree mold which makes it easier for me to control the size. Afterwards I write the numbers on the dial with colored glass sticks, all while it’s about 800 degrees. After the annealing I take it to the cold workshop where I cut off the back part of the clock. The inside of the clock is being filled with a fluid silver which makes the glass surface appear as a mirror. Last in the process I attach the hands which I have shaped and painted by hand.


Did you have a specific environment in mind for the piece?

I imagine it fitting into a modern home with a twisted interior style.


How do you feel this piece fits within your existing body of work?

During the last couple of years I have been working with glass from a more organic and experimental perspective. Other works I’ve done do have more or less similar organic shapes and so I feel Speculo Clock fits perfectly in addition to my already existing work.
