The Glasgow School of Art, as it came to be known, was a vibrant design movement that emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the Scottish city of Glasgow. At its heart, it was a unique blend of influences – the organic forms of Art Nouveau, the symbolism of Celtic art, the austerity of Japanese design, and the Arts and Crafts movement's emphasis on craftsmanship. Leading figures like Charles Rennie Mackintosh, his wife Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh, and their circle of collaborators created a distinct style that was simultaneously modern and timeless.
