There is a particular quality of light that emanates from an original Ettore Sottsass Ultrafragola mirror once its plastic casing has begun to yellow with age, a warm and amber luminescence that no modern production line can quite replicate. This specific appreciation for the patina of time is the quiet engine behind Bogen33, a furniture institution in Zürich that has spent more than two decades functioning as a living archive for twentieth century domesticity. Located within the vast industrial expanse of Hohlstrasse 100, the store occupies a fourteen hundred square meter warehouse that serves as both a showroom and a psychological landscape for those who find mass produced furniture inherently sterile. Founded in 2003 by Fabio Dubler, the project originally took root under the damp railway arches of the Viadukt, where Dubler and his then partner began scouring local second hand stores and street collections for discarded gems. This early methodology was less about retail and more about the thrill of the hunt, a process of salvaging history from the curbsides of the city and restoring it to its former structural glory.
