As an industrial designer, Walter Papst quickly recognized the advantages of the new fiberglass plastic (GFK) and reoriented himself both artistically and in terms of form. This led to the creation of a children's furniture program that grows with the child. The steel wire frames of the small chairs could be delivered in different heights, as could the tables – practical and also stackable, saving space. The bright red rocking sculpture even won an award at the 1959 Triennale in Milan, and the crawling table with triangular legs was the first table in the world to be made from a single piece of molded plastic. While the children's program was a charming addition to Wilkhahn’s offerings, it soon became unprofitable due to rising labor costs and the time-consuming production process.
