As an industrial designer, Walter Papst also very quickly recognised the advantages of the new plastic GRP and reoriented himself artistically and in terms of form. The result was a children's furniture programme that grew with the child. The steel wire frames of the chairs could be supplied in different heights, as could the tables - practical and also stackable to save space. The fiery red rocking sculpture even won an award at the Milan Triennale in 1959 and the crawling table with its triangular legs was the first plastic table in the world to be produced in one piece. Although the children's programme was an endearing addition to the Wilkhahn range, it soon became unprofitable due to the development of wages and the time-consuming production process.
